Knowing I’m not alone in wondering how to deal with tantrums, I turned to Breezy Mama‘s Go-To Child and Family Psychotherapist, Dr. Fran Walfish, Psy.D. for help.

What triggers a tantrum?

Temper tantrums are absolutely natural and expected during toddlerhood which I define as 18 months – 4 years of age.  The goal of the toddler is to claim himself as a separate being from Mommy.  He has many objectives to achieve during this crucial period of development.  In addition to separation, his goals include [Read more…] about How to Handle Your Child’s Tantrum. Dental Advice For Babies and Big Kids

June 29, 2009 By Chelsea

IMG_5645Let’s face it — it’s summer and parenting can get a little lax. Bath time can often involve just a hose (kidding… kind of), dietary concerns are no holds barred at the BBQs and bed time before sunset can often be a pipe-dream. However, one area you don’t want to put off until winter is your child’s teeth. From advice on how to get your toddler to let you brush, biggest problem areas in older children’s chompers (and how to avoid them) to the age your child can finally start brushing their own (hint: not for a while) and much more (including questions posted on the Seahorse Lounge answered), Breezy Mama turned to Dr. Finger of San Diego Pediatric Dental Group to get to the tooth of the [Read more…] about Dental Advice For Babies and Big Kids

Dr. Gillin answered our questions on whether she’s treated patients with Swine Flu, what concerns she has been hearing from parents, the measures being taken in California and more.

Now that California Governor Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency, what can we expect as far as a vaccine in California? When do you guess pediatrician offices will offer them?

It takes time to develop a vaccine to any virus. It will take some time to develop and manufacture and test a vaccine. Although the U.S. is prepared to develop [Read more…] about Swine Flu: What the Pediatrician Community is Saying Today (4/29) and More

Federal officials said it may take until January to get a vaccine.

As a follow up to Monday night’s post on Swine Flu, Dr. Gillin said this morning, “As you know, there has been the first death- in a toddler. Again, time will tell. Every year we have deaths of infants, children, and adults due to influenza. Time will tell whether this flu is acting like a typical flu in the U.S., or anything more.”

According to the Associated Press, the U.S.’s first death due to Swine Flu was a 23-month-old who had recently travelled from Mexico to Texas. Read more here.
