My son received Madagascar for a “big brother” gift this past winter, and I have to say, I think it’s the best children’s film for adults. I mean, Finding Nemo is funny and all (Marlin is a clownfish), but Madagascar is funny. Laugh out loud funny. The story is about four animals that live in the lap of luxury at New York’s Central Park Zoo but end up shipwrecked in the jungle of Madagascar and have to figure out how to survive in the “wild”. The movie features the voice talents of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith who are all just as hilarious as cartoons as they are real people. Even better is King Julien, a lemur played by Sacha Baron Cohen, who likes to party and sing. The real gem, however, are the group of penguins who escape the zoo to fulfill their lifelong dream of returning to Antarctica. These guys have the best one-liners in the movie, my favorite of which is when they arrive in Antarctica to encounter the howling winds and blowing snow. They’re standing there, enduring the weather, when Skipper the Penguin says, “Well, this sucks.” Although we don’t want our kids to say “sucks” this cracks me up every time. Warning: The song I Like to Move It, Move It will be stuck in your brain for the rest of the day.
Breezy Tip: Don’t have the movie in your collection? Order it here.
