The dreaded text came in from one of the mom’s of my child’s classmate, “Lice is going around the classroom!” This is my worst nightmare. Not only have I lived through having lice TWICE as a child (not very fun when one has stick straight, bleached-blonde hair that went to their waist), but I’ve read the horror stories of other moms who have dealt with lice, and have heard tales from teacher friends. Uh-uh, no way. . . I was going to do everything I could to prevent it. Though I was tempted to pull my child out of school, I knew that wouldn’t work. I gave a big speech about not sharing anything–to not exchange hats, to not put heads together, to not eat with anyone at lunch (I kid, I kid), but I knew that I needed more.
