Growing up in Southern California, an hour away from the Mexican border, meant that Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) was a pretty big deal. Our elementary school always had a huge celebration, with costumes and dancing, along with Mexican eats and music. The picture at left (which you’ve probably seen on Breezy Mama’s bilingual article) is of Chelsea (middle), me (right), and our friend Carolyn as we were getting ready to perform the Mexican Hat Dance. Yes, it was good times. As I got older (umm, closer to 21 to be exact), Cinco de Mayo became an excuse to go out on a week night and have some fun. Now that I have mini-me’s running around, the partying stops, but it doesn’t mean that the FUN stops. This Thursday, invite a few friends over for a Cinco de Mayo, kid friendly, fiesta–read on for easy tips on what music to play, good eats to serve, and crafts to entertain the kiddos. “Lo divertido” — in other words, “How much fun!
