Current Top 10 Children’s Books

May 14, 2009 By Chelsea

ladybug_girl Get your bookmarks ready! To literally help invigorate your morning nap/afternoon nap/nighttime reading (and per Breezy Mama Kelly’s request), I cross referenced the top 10 children’s books from NY Times Best Sellers List, Amazon’s top sellers, Borders’ top sellers and Chronicle Books to create the Breezy Mama Current Top 10. Sure, there are several classics missing from this list, but again, this is the current toppers. Don’t let your kid get caught clueless in the sandbox – update their bookshelf stat!

10. Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy
by David Soman and Jacky Davis. Illustrated by David Soman.
At the playground, Lulu asks her friend Sam if he wants to play with her. Sam likes Diggers, while Lulu thinks Monkeys is the best game. Sam suggests playing under the castle, but Lulu knows that the top is the most fun. They just can’t agree! And then Lulu asks, “Have you ever played Ladybug Girl?”
For Amazon’s price of $11.55 (vs. $16.99) click here.

9. Blueberry Girl
by Neil Gaiman. Illustrated by Charles Vess.
A book of wishes, addressed to a daughter. In a magical [Read more…] about Current Top 10 Children’s Books

Bumbleride Gets You Moving

March 18, 2009 By Alex

indie-twn-sWhen I became pregnant with my second child I obsessed with what stroller I was going to get. Seriously, no joke, I was OBSESSED. I talked about it constantly, stopped people on the street to inquire about theirs and was always going in stores and looking online doing research about new models.

Why the stress? I had a lot of variables. I wanted one double for everything—to take to the mall, to go to places such as Disneyland, to walk to the beach and to exercise with. And oh yeah, most of the models stop at $200.00 and then jump to $600.00—pretty stressful. And even better? Most of the high end ones aren’t sold in your local Babies ‘R Us, so it’s next to impossible to test drive it before plunking down that $600.00.

I was driving myself mad trying to figure out what to do—what was the perfect double for me which encompassed all of the above characteristics? And then . . . I found it. Bumbleride’s Indie Twin. What I call a “hybrid” model, the stroller has big tires so it can be used as a jogger, but it is compact enough to take to the mall. My three year old is comfortable in it but it also has an infant carrier attachment for my newborn. The best part? Although it averages at $589.00, the Bumbleride works out to be a bit cheaper because 1) it’s the ONLY double you’ll need, saving you the costs of buying others and 2) it comes with the aforementioned infant carrier attachment—no need to buy one separately. The attachment comes off easily, so you don’t have to have it on there permanently. The snack tray does cost you $40.00, but you get so many extras that I didn’t mind. Extras like a foot muff—basically a cozy covering that zips in around the seat so you’re kiddos are nice and toasty when you take it out on cold winter days. It also has a bumper bar for your child to hold on to, an air pump and cup holder. Bottom line, it’s fabulous. I knew I had made the right choice when I went to the mall with it for the first time—I was able to hold a cup of coffee, steer with the other arm, and navigate the store’s aisles. Incredible. Check it out here.

breezy_deal1Breezy Tip: Can’t get friends and family to chip in the $600? Check out the $179 Joovy Caboose Tandem Stroller. Though it’s not a jogger, it’s great for everything else you’d need a double stroller for.

The Birds and the Breeze: 2/28

February 27, 2009 By Chelsea

dscn0402The buzz on celebrity parents for February 28, 2009

It’s a double for Mike Piazza. The former New York Mets catcher and his wife are expecting their second child.

Add triple the fun for Boston Legal’s Julie Bowen. The actress announced twin boys will join big brother Oliver in April.

Mythbusters Kari Byron’s tummy will soon be busting out. Announcing the pregnancy on the show with her two male costars, she jokingly asked, “Guess which one of us is actually pregnant?”

Tommy Hilfiger and his wife, Dee Ocleppo, expect to fashion in a child at the end of summer.

Father of two Kevin Federline will be debuting new seams in the children’s clothing business. Keeping it Breezy, Britney Spear’s ex told Women’s Wear Daily, “I’m trying to take it seriously and make a quality product for kids but not have parents pay like $500 or something ridiculous for a pair of jeans.”

It was great site sea-ing for the audience of The Little Mermaid on Broadway when they were joined by fellow spectators Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and their kids, Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Shiloh.

Best Actress Oscar winner and mom Kate Winslet shared with Oprah, “I have done quite a lot of nudity, and I feel like my kids — they’re 8 and 5 now — maybe they’re going to start to become aware of the amount of nudity I’ve done. I just sort of feel like I can’t get away with it that much longer.”
