Feeling grumpy as a bear? Mother Bruce will get you laughing

WIN! Get your own copy of Mother Bruce plus a $50 Visa Gift card–see bottom.

Mother Bruce, by author/illustrator Ryan T. Higgins, is a hilarious take on the Mother Goose title. You see, Bruce is a bear–a grumpy bear, who really enjoys cooking (I mean, who doesn’t enjoy food to get out of their grumpiness?!). Bruce especially loves eggs–cooked eggs–and he enjoys trying new egg recipes which he finds on the internet (you see, Bruce is really a millennium bear). One day, he finds a recipe for goose eggs and salmon, which he thinks sounds absolutely delish, so he goes on the hunt for the ingredients. After taking eggs from Mrs. Goose’s nest, he comes home, puts the eggs on to boil, only to find that the fire goes out. When he re-enters the house with more wood, he becomes the victim of mistaken identity–the eggs hatched! Bruce finds himself as a new Mama and no matter what he does, he can’t get the four goslings to leave. The story follows Bruce and how he learns that his new “kids” aren’t so bad, while they teach him to be less of a grump.

The cute story line is even better with the fabulous illustrations (my daughter especially loved the goslings as “teens”). . . this book is a must-have for any child’s library. Aimed at 3 – 5 year olds, my 7 year old loved it as well.
