About the Movie Home

If I look a li’l green lately it’s because I’m so jealous Lan, our NY Editor, got to attend an event on behalf of Breezy Mama for the new movie, Home, that comes out on Friday… and she got to interview none other than Rihanna, Steve Martin, Jim Parsons and more! Here’s what they had to say about making the movie, Home.

From Lan:
Settle in for a fun ride to Home!

Aliens, misfits and a grand adventure –DreamWorks’ Home has all the ingredients of a great family film.

Directed by Tim Johnson, Home opens with the hive-minded Boove relocating to Earth in an effort to flee from their enemy the Gorg. To call it home, they oh-so-kindly relocate every human their technology can find into one small part of the world. Amongst this race of conformist aliens is Oh, who hungers for connection. In his quest for friendship, Oh (voiced by Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory) gets in trouble and ends up on the run.

Also on the run is Gratuity “Tip” Tucci, a smart, tenacious young girl of Caribbean descent. Oh and Tip (voiced by Rihanna) strike up an unlikely partnership that blossoms into friendship as they look for Tip’s mother (voiced by Jennifer Lopez).

It is this story of hope, of being true to yourself and the power of friendship, that brought Parsons, Rihanna and Steve Martin (the voice of the Boovs’ cowardly leader Captain Smek) together.

“I have felt like an outsider ever since my first day at school,” Rihanna said at a recent press event in Manhattan’s Mandarin Oriental. “When you’re at home, you have this sense of comfort. You belong. And not until you leave your home and you have to be in a different environment supervised by completely different people and around different children who are from different homes” that you realize you are different. Despite these challenges, you need to be “who you are no matter what.”

Parsons agrees, adding, “There is really only one choice [during these difficult times and that is] to stay true to yourself.”

Home, based on Adam Rex’s novel The True Meaning of Smekday, will be in theaters starting March 27.
