Listen, I take my job reviewing movies for you VERY seriously. And I’m not joking. The last thing I want to do is waste your money and your time that could be better spent with your kids. Recently, when catching a screening of Disney’s new movie Frozen, I even went the extra mile (cough, cough) of covering the bases for ages, including my cohorts that came with me that were ages 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 (a.k.a. three of my kids and my adorable nephews..), which were 3 boys total and 2 girls… my bases in opinions were covered.
Shockingly and unanimously we absolutely LOVED it! And I mean WE! I loved it! My sister-in-law loved it!!! Frozen struck gold for us all. Adding to the fun, we saw it in 3D at the ArcLight Theater that had these special battery powered glasses that were amazing and leaving us feeling as though each snow flake will land on our shoulders.
While I do think the high quality 3D added to the fun, the true surprise was the story! A departure from the usual themes, predictability, etc., this kid’s movie was rich with characters and with a message that… sigh… I’m getting teary eyed all over again thinking about! Of course the kids had several laughs, but I also lost track at the numerous jokes that had us adults cracking up, too.
An update to the classic Hans Christian Andersen’s “Snow Queen,” Anna (Kristen Bell) sets off to bring her sister Elsa (Idina Menzel) back home after her icy powers have frozen their kingdom. Along the way, Anna teams up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven. Encountering adorable trolls (seriously, they are cute) and a scene stealing snowman named Olaf (Josh Gad), they work together in hopes of bringing back the warmth.
Now, here’s my minor warnings: it is the type of movie that busts into song frequently, which my husband generally is not a fan of so I’m not sure HE would have the exact same enthusiasm as me. Also, there is one scary character, but our clan seemed to handle him just fine.
Those details aside, I will DEFINITELY be seeing Frozen again and hope it becomes a holiday classic that I can add to my annual Holiday TV Show Schedule.
FROZEN opens in theatres everywhere on November 27th!
