Sponsored: Kids Rooms: Where Do You Find Inspiration?

My nursery seven years ago. . .

. . . and what it looks like today.

I’ve been itching to redo my kids’ room. When I was pregnant with my son, I went all out on the nursery—it was SO much fun to think of a new theme, seek out the perfect accessories and pick the paint colors.  That was seven years ago, and a lot has changed since then. My son is not into “French vintage” (hmmm, no surprise there) and he now has a 3 year old sister who shares the room with him. I’ve taken down the French posters, and have put up a Star Wars one, but my poor daughter has nothing to call her own but an adorable pink mermaid pillow that my friend Alysha made her. She sleeps on blue sheets with a pale blue comforter covered in trucks. Yes, it’s cute, but not very feminine, for my very girly daughter.

So I’ve figured the time has come and I’m justified in redecorating it. But the work it takes! I want bunk beds, but they’re much harder to find than one would think. If you need a new dinner table, you’re in luck, because a huge variety of dining tables is not hard to find. A super cool bunk bed under a $1,000? That’s a bit more challenging.

And then there are the ideas—my daughter wants rainbows and mermaids. Okay. We have a blue rug in there currently, so that’ll be the “ocean” and luckily, my son is into surfing, so we can do his portion a surf theme. But where do you find rainbow and mermaids? Luckily for me, the search is half the fun.

So, as I begin this journey, I want to know–where do you go for décor inspiration? And, for those of you whose kids share rooms, what style tips do you have? I’d love to hear your ideas in the comment section below!

  1. My husband and I were working all weekend on our daughter’s room remodel for her upcoming 10th b-day. She even helped with the painting! Found a super cute bunk bed + futon at Big Lots for $249.99 + $99.99 for futon (not included). Here’s a link: http://www.biglots.com/p/c/beds/twin-futon-bunk-bed-1

  2. Thanks for the tip Robin–I would’ve never thought to look at Big Lots!
