4 Work Out DVDs That Work

In my quest to avoid getting burnt out while trying to get back in shape by changing my work out routine, I have tested out another round of exercise DVDs. Once again, my requirements to make the list for an excellent work out program are that it be easy to follow, not too long (under an hour), as entertaining as possible, make me sweat and really sore in all the right places so I can really pack a punch in case someone tries to cut in front of me at the coffee shop… kidding… kind of. In all seriousness, my pursuit of defying gravity and my pipe dream of one day having Madonna arms (okay, maybe not THAT buff) also helps me have the energy to keep up with the kids… until 4pm or so when I need to be back in the coffee line which brings me back to that point, as well, ahem. Read on to get my reviews for the top fitness DVDs.

Denise Austin-Sculpt and Burn Body Blitz
Apparently it turns out I’m odd for never having heard of Denise Austin. Either way, I am happy to have “met” her! This particular workout has four 10 minute increments with a 5 minute warm up and a 5 minute cool down so you can pick and choose or complete all four circuits. With the martial arts inspired exercises and athletic conditioning, this has quickly become a favorite! The final exercises are more arm focused, so this really has it all. Oh, and my personal fav is the uber buff dudes that do the moves with you.

Kristi Yamaguchi Power Workout
Back in May, I instantly became a fan when Kristi Yamaguchi tweeted Breezy Mama’s post on mean preschool boys and girls. After THAT, I had to give her “body-transforming circuit workout” a try since she clearly has excellent mom blog taste (ahem). Split into three 10 minute circuits, this work out DVD is very busy-mom friendly! Led by Erin O’Brien, who looks like Princess Leia, frankly, one of the moves is deemed the “Yamaguchi”– I get it stuck in my head all day and love it. May the force be with you, too!

Bethenny’s Skinnygirl Workout
If you love Bethenny (and I do!) then these three quick yoga segments “that tone the entire body” have that added edge of fun. Plus, it’s hard not to be motivated when SHE looks so great. This fitness plan is a great workout and definitely a tad challenging at times, which I liked so I know my muscles are being put to good use! Add in that it’s yoga and you can’t help but let go of life’s stresses.

Extreme Kettlebell Workout Starring Steve Cotter
It may seem as though I threw this in here just to intimidate you from my strength (cough, cough), but in fact I have borrowed this DVD from my hubby and can often be found doing disc 4’s 20 minute cardio/circuit workout. Yes, TWENTY minutes and you are done! And after I can barely walk. I first got addicted to a kettlebell workout when I originally did workout DVD reviews. Since then, I’ve upgraded to a 15 pounder… ahhhhh yeahhh! I am a big fan of working several muscles at once and being finished in less than a half hour!

  1. This is so timely – I just dusted off Bollywood Booty after about 6 mos yesterday afternoon! Only got through the warm-up, though, before two frustrated toddlers (“want Einsteins!!”) and the phone ringing derailed me. I see lots of appeal in workouts that last 20 minutes or less. 🙂
