My Favorite Etsy Finds

Have you noticed that whenever you compliment someone on a unique bag, piece of jewelry, baby onsie, etc.–that it always seems to come from Etsy? The site is filled with adorable finds, but it’s so big, that it can make one feel that they need a Masters in Etsy to be able to pinpoint exactly what they’re looking for. Enter Maria Oliva-McKeen. Maria is an absolute pro when navigating the Etsy waters, and is here to share her favorite finds–from food to jewelry–along with advice on making the ordering process go as smoothly as possible.

From Maria:

If you haven’t heard of Etsy.com, you are in for a whole new shopping experience!  This fantastic website offers all things made by hand or vintage from new little girls’ hair accessories to reclaimed wood furniture and everything in between. However, Etsy can be quite overwhelming.  There are buyers and sellers spanning over 150 countries and finding just the right thing and store can keep the timid shopper sticking to the local mall. Here are a few of my favorite things and a couple tips to keep the shopping fun.

Hers: This absolutely gorgeous neck piece from StudioElenus (photo at top) is the perfect accessory to wear to all of your summer’s engagements or with a tee and jeans all year long.  I love the slightly vintage feel. Hypnotic Yellow/ Fabric flower necklace with brass filigree leaf, $21.50. Click here to order.

His: Father’s Day is around the corner and I’m always at a loss to figuring out what to get my hubby.  So, to answer the proverbial question of what to get your hubby (or dad, or brother) when he has “everything”?  Enter these quirky, kind of kitchy, moustache pint glasses.  Modern Madness also does them in shot and rocks glasses.  Pick his poison…I’m mean, you know what I mean. Moustache Pint Glasses, $24.00 for 4. Click here to order.

Kids: Kids parties are turning into huge planning events; and after deciding to hold my daughter’s 2nd birthday party at Gymboree, I needed to capitalize on their “Gymbo the Clown” theme.  I went to Etsy store, Dimpleprints for decorations to execute a spot-on coordinated party.  What she offers are DIY .pdf printables from annoucements to invitations to personalized, themed party packages like circus, superhero, monkeys, construction, etc. for a perfectly coordinated celebration.  The way it works is after purchasing your .pdf you’re able to print as many invites, banners, labels, cupcake toppers, etc. as needed.  Then, you cut and decorate. Customized…Printable Party Package…DIY Circus by DimplePrints, $20.00. Click here to order.

Gourmet: I love to cook and try desperately at baking.  However, I love to watch and, later, sample, my friend’s baking creations.  To somehow contribute to these creations, I’ve given these yummy artisanal baking and dessert salts kit as housewarming or thank you gifts.  Purpose Design also offers other beautifully packaged spice/rub kits for meats, chicken and fish, as well as tea kits. Artisanal Baking and Dessert Salts Kit, $12.00 for 6. Click here to order.

Home: If you’re like me, I love watching HGTV shows that transform lifeless rooms into magical destinations. With a switch of some pillows, rugs and window treatments, you can do it, too.  But, how about changing up your lampshades with this very modern, Ikat Medallion Drum Lampshade by Studio Jota?  He offers many styles and sizes to accommodate any lighting situation. Navy Ikat Medallion Drum Lampshade, $89.95. Click here to order.

Finally, here are a few tips to ease any shopping anxiety.

  • If you have any questions at all about the product, don’t hesitate one bit to contact the seller.  Most will get back to you within 24 hours.
  • Note the shipping costs.  Sometimes, it’s less expensive to email the seller a shipping label from your own USPS, UPS or FedEx account.  Setting up an account is free.
  • Note where the seller is shipping from.  If it’s out of the US, then your item will have to go through customs, possible prolonging delivery.  Shop early for gifts!
