Movie for the Holiday Break: Gulliver’s Travels

Breezy Mama‘s Contributing Editor Jill Kloster gets a sneak peek at one of this holiday’s hottest movies. . . Gulliver’s Travels.

From Jill:

One of my favorite movies growing up, was Gulliver’s Travels –  the original version AND the one starring  Ted Dansen.  I’ll be honest, the only reason I began watching the movie in the first place, was because I thought that the Gulliver character was Michael Landon.  I had a huge crush on Michael Landon back in the day (A.K.A “Pa”from Little House on the Prairie) ,and by the time I had figured  out that he was not the playing the lead role, I was already way too into the plot to turn back.  This Christmas, an all new, modern, 3D version is set to hit theatres and let me tell you, it’s a trip worth taking.

Lemuel Gulliver (Jack Black) is a mail room clerk at a New York newspaper who leads a very simple life–almost too simple.  A crush on one of his co-workers leads him to apply for a job that he is way under-qualified for. After embellishing his resume, he lands a dream assignment covering the Bermuda triangle for the travel section.  A freaky storm transports Gulliver into the fantasy land of Lilliput where his giant physical size and personality land him in hot water.  He convinces the Lilliputians that he is responsible for many of “his world’s” inventions, and also that he is a significant contributor to its most important historical moments.  Gullivers untruths lead the Lilliputians to believe that he can conquer their longtime enemy the Blefuscians but he fails, and puts their kingdom at risk forever.  Remorseful, Gulliver works hard to undo the damage, ultimately realizing in the process that all he ever needed to be was himself.

Gulliver’s Travels also stars Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, Amanda Peet and Billy Connolly and is directed by Rob Letterman.
