Mini Kimochis

Kimochis are toys with feelings–literally. They originated as stuffed animals, each “character” having his/her own personality and a little pocket where they keep their feelings. Made to help effectively communicate feelings; build confidence, self-esteem, and strong
relationships, they each have a story and are too cute to boot. A friend gave Cloud (that’s him, on the bottom, right) to my son when my daughter was in the hospital. Cloud really helped him deal with his own feelings of having all the attention on my daughter, and has since become one of my son’s constant pals. I love these mini versions–the feelings come on key chains so if they’re not in the Kimochi character, your child can take them along. A comic book is also included. Recommended for ages 3 – 8. Mini Kimochis, $15.00 each. Click here to order.

Mini Kick Scooter

Breezy Mama Jen just saw this scooter in action and she says that her barely two-year old was riding it like nobody’s business. The scooter has won multiple awards, including the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold, the Platinum Award Seals for Best Toy in 2009 and was named ‘Best Pre-School Scooter’ by Toy Report and ‘Best Outdoor Toy’ by Learning Express Stores. The thing that makes it unique is their ‘lean-and-steer’ design, which “allows children to use their body weight to control the steering, giving them the feeling of ‘surfing’ the sidewalk, as they curve from right to left, almost like a skateboard.” Available in a array of colors as well. Recommended for ages 3 – 5. Mini Kick Scooter, $79.99. Click here to order.

Stacrobats Magnetic Stacking Acrobats

An AmaZing Tot 2006 winner, I saw these acrobats at the ABC show this past October and was instantly hooked.  The entire set has magnets in them, so the figures, balls, and base all connect. The toy encourages explorative play, flexible thinking, dexterity, self-expression, self-confidence and independent play. What more could one want? The set includes 5 magnetic figures, 3 magnetic balls, and a powerful magnetic base that doubles as a carrying case. Recommended for ages: 1-100. Stacrobats Magnetic Stacking Acrobats, $55.99. Brickmaster Lego Books

My son received one of these books for his birthday, and I am still in awe how long it keeps his attention. Each book has a different theme, his for example, is castles. The book contains a set of Legos, and the book explains how you can use the set of Legos to make a multitude of things–such as a jail for the skeleton, the skeleton’s outpost, or a horse and buggy. But here’s the catch–he does it ALL BY HIMSELF. No need for me to sit with him–it’s easy enough for him to understand and do it on his own. (Side note: The castle book is for ages 5+, and he received it for his 5th birthday.) As I said above, the books come in different themes, aimed at different ages. Lego Brickmaster Hardcover Book, prices vary. Click here to order.

myWallaby Agile Doll Carrier

Chelsea said her 7 year-old daughter received this in the morning and didn’t take it off for the entire day. myWallaby is a bag that consists of a doll compartment, a unique front-facing zippered pouch, and two additional zippered pockets, one on the inside of the doll compartment and one on the back of the bag. So now your daughter can take her doll with her, and when she’s tired of carrying it, you won’t be stuck with the duty. A Dr. Toy Best Picks, New Product Winner. For ages 3+. myWallaby Agile Doll Carrier, $39.99. Click here to order.

Sassafras Baking Kits

Oneida carries a multitude of cooking kits, each one cuter than the next. From pizzas to Peace and Love cookies to Volcano cakes, you’re bound to find something for whatever your child is currently into. Each set comes with the mix to make the food item, a rhyming recipe as well as such cooking needs like a apron and “adult duty” mixing spoon. I see a afternoon of family fun in your future! Recommended for ages 5+. Sassafras Baking Kits, currently on sale for $14.99. Click here to order.

Patchwork Bear

If you’re looking for a holiday gift for a newborn, look no further. Each bear is handmade in the USA and feature “thoughtful details like hand-embroidered eyes and nose, premium designer fabrics in 100% cotton and custom personalization.” Each bear is vintage in style, and you can order a coordinating blanket or quilt as well. Have an older child that you need a gift for? Turn their frayed lovey or favorite quilt into a bear–something they’ll treasure forever. Featured: Patchwork Bear, Tortoise Plaid, $45.00. Click here to order.

Need a kit to keep the lil’ ones busy? Have them make some Capsters–a new form of pop art that will have them gluing and decorating until the cows come home. Basically, you’re taking bottle caps and turning them into works of art. The kit works like this, “To make a capster, take a bottle cap (included) and add a round piece of art (included), specially sized to fit neatly inside the cap. You might want to add a small charm (included) or perhaps some craft gems and glitter (included and included). Squirt some special goo (included) over your creation. Overnight the goo will dry into a super-shiny, clear, hard coating and — voila — you’ve got yourself a capster.” Recommended for ages 8+. Capsters, $11.53. Click here to order.
