Oh, dear white wine lovers. . . I am so sorry that you were sad I didn’t include white wine in last week’s Great (but Cheap!) story. But never fear, today is YOUR day. I, myself, am not an avid white wine drinker, so I enlisted the help of Breezy Mama fried, Jen, who matches me glass for glass when we sip our wine–only her glass is filled with white and mine is filled with red. Read on to see what our suggestions are, and as always, all are $7.99 or less. Make sure to tell us your favorites in the comments section below!
Napa River Chardonnay
I really couldn’t believe how great this one was for such a low price. The Trader Joe’s employees (where I got it) told me they are selling out like crazy. The blog, Simply Wine, had this to say, “We decided to pair the dinner with a Trader Joe’s special. Napa River chardonnay is from the guy who brought you “2 buck chuck”, but better! It’s buttery, aged in oak and priced at $4.99.” There doesn’t seem to be a site for this wine, but it’s available at Trader Joe’s.
I get this one at Albertson’s and it’s $7.99. But, if you buy six bottles (mix or match) you get an additional 10% off. From the winemaker: Blackstone Chardonnay shows aromas of pineapple, peach and lemon citrus with a touch of mineral notes and pleasing oak followed by luscious tropical fruit flavors and a touch of toasted vanilla on the palate This bright, well-balanced wine has a long, lingering finish. Bella Serra Pinot Grigio
This a great Pinot Grigio that I drink a lot during the summer. From the winemaker: Bella Sera’s Pinot Grigio is crisp and refreshing with citrus aromas and flavors of ripe apple and pear. Click here to visit Bella Serra Winery.
My mom also prefers whites to red, Rieslings and Gewürztraminers to be exact. So, when I have my parents over for dinner, I’m sure to stock the following:
Like I said last week, I seem to never go wrong with a Fetzer. This Riesling is no exception. From the winemaker: Our personal style blends fruit from cooler areas of California to create a wine both rich and floral, pale yellow in color with aromas of pear and apricot. Chateau Ste. Michelle Gewürztraminer
For some reason, this seems to be my go to bottle when it comes to Gewürztraminer. From the winemaker: A fan favorite, this Gewürztraminer pops out of the glass with exuberant fruit and clove spice. The 2008 bottling is lush with a lot of character, yet still maintains the grape’s natural crisp character. This is an easy wine to enjoy. Click here to visit Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery.
