Kid’s Room Decor: Shabby Chic

February 24, 2010 By Alex

Last Friday I found myself cruising the aisles of Ikea with Breezy Mama Kelly. I was looking for a new lamp for our living room, when I spotted this beauty. Kelly’s daughter’s room is a shabby chic theme, so whenever we’re together, we’re always on the lookout for new and fun ideas to add to it. (Ummm, yes, I love to live vicariously through other people’s kid’s rooms). I loved this lamp so much, that voila!, I decided to do a kid’s room decor centered around it. Here you go . . .

Glansa Pendant Lamp
Love, love this lamp, it’s so pretty and delicate, and totally out of the ordinary. Kelly pointed out that you could hang things off of it as well, which would be a cute addition. The black version is shown above because it showed up best, but they also have white. And they have a smaller version for $16.99. Ikea Glansa Pendant Lamp, $29.99. Click here to see store availability.

Vitaminer Hjarta Rug
Next, we came across the rug–adorable, isn’t it? Even better is the price–a mere $3.99! We were in shock–it was enough to make me want to redo my daughter’s half of the room. Ikea Vitaminer Hjarta Rug, $3.99. Click here to see store availability.

Bedding of Roses
Oh my goodness–could you just die with how cute this bedspread is?? There are a lot of shabby chic options out there, but this is by far, my favorite. Bedding of Roses duvet, $79.00 – $99.00. Click here to order from Land of Nod.

Isabelle Toile Panels and Fluted Avery Hardware

Every shabby chic venue needs some type of toile, and these curtains fit the bill perfectly. Pair them with PB Kid’s Fluted Avery hardware, shown at left. Isabelle Toile Panels, on sale for $30.00 – $45.00. Fluted Avery Hardware, $40.00 – $89.00. Both available from PB Kids, click on each name to order.

Customized Wall Decor

You can personalize your daughter’s room with a customized wall decal–I love this one from Wee Monograms. You can either keep the birth date in or take it out. View other ideas here. Wee Monograms Customized Wall Decor, contact Wee Monograms for your specific quote.

Wall Color
And now, for the wall coverings. There are so many choices, I couldn’t decide what I liked best. Finally, I narrowed it down to three. Love this soft, muted pink, but then how cute is the green? And this wallpaper?? Oh my. You could do one wall with the paper, and then the rest the soft pink, or, one wall green and . . . the possibilities are endless!

Green Willow Floral Wallpaper, $115.00 for 56 square feet. Click here to order from Warm Biscuit Bedding Company.

Mythic Paint: Tutu (pink), $6.99 – $44.99. Click here to order from Land of Nod.

Mythic Paint: Olive You Too (green), $6.99 – $44.99. Click here to order from Land of Nod.

That lamp WAS adorable, wasn’t it? Much cuter in person than the picture shows! There was also the cute antique-;ooking chandelier from IKEA for around $30. I love that place!

Adorable! I’m not much of a decorator, but after 2 boys, I am thinking I need to decorate our little girl’s room. But who knows? Maybe she likes that everything she’s been handed down has a train on it and is the color blue :).

The pendant lamp is so unusual. I can see the potential for spiffing it up and turning it into a real work of art. Even better than that is its potential as a source for inspiration.

I have a friend who turned a kitchen colander into the cutest pendant lamp by sticking tiny Christmas lights in the holes.

The sky seems to be the limit when it comes to creating fun ways to decorate a room.
