Top Drugstore Beauty Finds

Sure, looking good is priceless, but looking good for less is even better! Breezy Mama’s Queen of the Caboodle Kelly put on her drugstore cowgirl hat to do her research for the best low cost picks, with only one item at $20 and the rest under $10 — yeeeehaw!

From Kelly:
A couple of months ago my purse was stolen. As one can imagine, I was upset. Then I realized not only was my purse stolen, but also my entire makeup bag. I was DEVASTATED! Being the beauty junkie that I am, I had accumulated $500-$700 of makeup in that bag. To replenish my treasured beauty amenities I had to take a measly $100 and scour the grocery and drugstores for makeup that would suffice until I am able to afford the items I once purchased at a makeup counter. I was pleasantly surprised to find many comparable items that performed as well if not better than my pricey makeup at a fraction of the price! Here are my new top faves:

5. NYC (New York Color) lipgloss I picked up this cute little tin of lipgloss at CVS pharmacy for under a buck. I get more compliments on this lipgloss on anything I have ever worn! I got my tin in the color sugar rush, a pretty plum color. It even smells like a yummy plum! To purchase from New York Color, click here.

4. Jemma Kidd Crème Blush- Jemma Kidd’s line at Target is great. It is on the pricier side of drugstore makeup ($16.99), but I believe worth its price. Her crème blush delivers the same natural looking flush that my Tarte brand did and glides on effortlessly. To purchase from Target, click here.

3. Maybelline Volum’ Express Mascara ($7, drugstores or Amazon)- I decided to branch out from my usual Maybelline Great Lash mascara and see if this mascara would really plump up my lashes as it claims to do. This stuff really works! It plumped up my lashes like no other and got every teeny lash I have! When my tube runs out, I will definitely go back for more. To purchase from Amazon, click here!

2. Covergirl’s Outlast Lipstain ($7.89, drugstores)- This lipstick has a fabulous texture and lasts ALL DAY. My lips never dry out because of the built-in conditioners. To purchase from Amazon, click here!

1. Boots Botanics crème eyeliner ($7.99, Target or Amazon)- In the past, I have used Bobbi Brown’s gel liner. Both Boots’ and Bobbi’s come in a cute little pot and you apply to the top of your lid with an applicator brush. I could not find one difference as far as the liner’s consistency, ease of application or how long it lasts after applying between the two. The added bonus? With the Boots Brand the applicator brush comes with the liner whereas with Bobbi Brown’s version you have to by the overly priced brush separtately! To purchase from Amazon, click here!

On my quest for drugstore beauty items I stumbled upon some other pretty great beauty finds. Stay tuned for me to share these items with you in a later article!

Thanks for the great info! I don’t normally wear a lot of makeup, but I really would like to try out a few of the things you’ve listed. Target and CVS, here I come!

  2. I am so NOT a makeup junkie so I love seeing items that are tested and mom approved for those times I want to brighten up my look a little! 🙂 Thanks!

  3. Thanks, Michelle and Ashley. At THOSE prices why would you NOT try an item or two?

  4. Awesome! The recession has claimed my MAC privileges & US Magazine (don’t get me started). Now I can stop lurking around department store makeup counters hoping for free samples and complimentary makeovers. Target here I come!

  5. Wow, Kelly, I’m sorry you had your purse stolen. That is terrible.
I was surprised to hear that you had $500- to $700 worth of make-up in it. I discovered a long time ago that you really don’t need to buy into that scam that you have to spend a lot to get a good quality of make up. There have been many comparison studies to show that spending more at the upscale department stores don’t always guarantee a better product. I’m glad you have discovered an alternative. Good for you, and thanks for sharing!
