“Um, Mommy, my nanny is on TV,”– so could be a 4 year old’s reaction if he is allowed to stay up late enough to see next Wednesday’s premier episode of Mercy starring his former sitter — just up until she quit for the lead role — Taylor Schilling, who stars as Veronica in the new medical drama.
“They are so excited,” she shared of the parents she worked for when she got the part. Of course Breezy Mama had to follow with, “Except for the part that they lost they’re nanny?” To which Taylor laughed and responded, “Yes, except for that part.”
After studying acting in grad school at NYU, she had been taking care of the four year old while auditioning. “This is my first pilot season and this is my dream,” Taylor shared. “It’s like Christmas for me. I can do what I love finally. I’ve been waiting and waiting.”
Co-star James Tupper will continue on with his kid duty any chance he can get with his son Atlas (click here for the meaning of the name), born in March — mom is Tupper’s former Men in Trees co-star Anne Heche.
“The producers [are] very kind and know I have a new baby. [They said] we can shoot at the top of the week and try to get [me] home for a long weekend,” Tupper — who portrays Dr. Chris Sanders, a new doctor that stirs up drama for Veronia – said.
Regarding his son, he said, “He never cries or anything. I call him Sugar Plumb. I sing him a good morning song and he just smiles at me. We sing him a very funny song we made up – I am a butterfly [sings, then laughs].”
One product that’s pushed him through is his stroller. “We have this Orbit stroller. It’s fantastic. It walks itself.”
Regarding the female-centric show that centers on the nurses, he joked, “The show is about a sexy Doctor [laughs].”
Either way, he’s holding his own amongst his female co-workers. “I love it,” he said with a smile.
And if everyone loves it next week, keep an eye out for a ‘Want Ad’ for a nanny position for a four year old.
