5 Secrets to Looking Fabulous this Fall

418+3EQ1cdL._SL500_AA280_The only thing that could make me feel better about the end of summer (sniff, sniff) is getting Kelly’s – a.k.a The Queen of the Caboodle’sBreezy Mama beauty tips and picks for the new season! As she put it, “Five looks to ‘Fall’ for!”

Fall is my favorite time of year! I love the feel of the warm sun mixed with crisp, cool, air, football games and the smells of apples, cinnamon and spices. Just as the leaves change color, I always want to make a change or two to my beauty routine to help me get in the season. Here are five simple ways to change your look for fall!

5. Go au naturale with your hair: Put away your straightening irons and let your hair’s natural wave come through. After washing your hair, let it air dry slightly so it is damp. Then twist your hair into a bun at the nape of your neck and secure with a ponytail holder. Let it dry this way (I usually make a bun on the TOP of my head so it doesn’t bug me and sleep with it like this). When you take out the ponytail, your hair will have some nice wave to it. Just tousle it a little bit and apply some John Frieda Frizz-Ease ($8.35) if your hair tends to get frizzy and go! For girls with curls that need taming, do as above, but when hair is wet, put in leave-in cream Kerastase Nutritive Crème Oleo-Relax Slim ($49.14). This cream gets curls smooth, shiny and under control. If your hair is very straight and you need a little help with getting some waves, Revlon’s 3-Barrel Waver ($39.95) is for you. Weave strands through the three barrels and in minutes you will have pretty, loose natural-looking waves.

Four to try: Fracas de Robert Piget ($84.99), Burberry Brit ($25.19), Banana Republic Rosewood ($37.82) and Laura Mercier’s Minuit Enchante Parfum ($90). Just smelling these scents makes you feel like cuddling up with your honey!

3. Be neutral: Wearing neutral colors on your face always looks classy and works with all skin tones. Clinique offers a great eyeshadow trio called Totally Neutral ($22). Sonia Kashuk also has an eyeshadow palette with 7 mix and match colors called Perfectly Neutral ($22). Pair with a shimmery peach blush (like Revlon ColorStay Mineral Powder ($12.52) in Sunkiss or Estee Lauder Marbelized Shimmer Powder ($19.99) in Gilded Rose) or a soft pink blush (like CoverGirl Rose Silk ($4.99)). Finish with one of these neutral lipsticks: CoverGirl Outlast lipstick ($9.77) in Buff (a beautiful peachy-tan color), Chanel Lipgloss in Unity ($35) (a light brown color with a hint of shimmer), or MAC lipstick ($14) in Taupe (subtle beige with undertones of pumpkin).

Keep your makeup neutral but add a punch of color to your lipstick. Think foods of the season: cranberries, pomegranates and cinnamon. Here are my top picks: MAC lipstick ($14) in Chili, Maybelline Cinnamon Stick ($7.49), Laura Mercier Cranberry ($25.84) and Neutrogena Pomegranate ($15.21 for two pack). JUST REMEMBER to keep the rest of the face simple! Tip: Skip lipliner. After applying, blot your mouth so lips looks stained. The color won’t be overpowering, but will look like you just ate fresh berries!

If that feels like too much, just line the top lid with blue and line the bottom with black or just a coat of mascara. Again, keep everything else simple: black mascara, bare lids, soft lip and cheek colors. Here’s a few to try: Sally Hansen Forever Stay Eye Pencil in Blue Indigo, L’Oreal Paris HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner ($3.99) in Midnight Blue, Lancome Ink Artliner in Indigo Charm ($23).

Happy Fall, Y’All!!!

  1. Great article. I love all of these tips, I’ve been searching for a good nude lipcolor and fragrance. This is perfect! Also, I have the Keratase creme and it it works great. For those of you who need to pull out the big guns on the frizz front I recommend the Brazilian Blowout. I just got it and I can’t believe I’ve lived this long without it. Amazing!!

  2. Thanks, Maria! Glad you liked it! We must be on the same wavelength…I got a Brazillian Blowout a couple weeks ago and love it too!

One more fragrance I like: Creed’s Orange Spice. I think it is considered a men’s fragrance, but I would definitely wear it myself! Earthy, woodsy and citrusy at the same time!

  3. Kelly, Thanks so much for the tips!!! I’m on the lookout for the Keratase creme and already trying something from John Frieda, both to carry me over until I can get my own Brazilian blowout. Plus want to grab some of the neutral lipstick! THANKS so much for the hints- LOVE your suggestions!!!
