Even if you’re not a soap fan, you’ve likely seen Eileen Davidson in the role she’s played since 1982 as Ashley Abbott on The Young and the Restless. A working mother of son Jesse, 5, she spoke to Breezy about balancing an acting career and motherhood as well as becoming an author.
On average, how many hours are you on the set?
Eileen: I probably work an average of 6 to 8 hours a day.
Do you ever bring your son Jesse to work?
Eileen: I do bring Jesse to work when he is out of school or on holiday break.
What does he think when he sees Mommy on TV?
Eileen: He thinks it’s normal to see me on TV and calls me “TV Mommy” when he does.
Is it ever surreal for you to be with your son one minute and then in hair and make-up the next?
Eileen: It’s not surreal. I breastfed Jesse in the make up chair for two years. It’s pretty normal.
Ever borrow any of the clothes for your character Ashley and wear them out?
Eileen: I do borrow clothes on occasion. Perk!
Congratulations on completing your first novel Death in Daytime. Can you tell our readers the premise of the murder mystery?
Eileen: The main heroine is an actress on a soap who finds herself embroiled in a murder whodunit. She is framed for a murder and has to clear herself.
Did you enjoy writing it?
Eileen: I have already written the second book Dial Emmy for Murder and it will be released June 2, 2009. I am currently writing my third. I love writing. It’s a blast!
Did any of your past Y&R scenes influence the book?
Eileen: I definitely use everything I have experienced from being in this business so long. That’s what makes it so fun. The audience gets a behind the scenes peek into what we do.
If you had a choice, would your son become an actor or author?
Eileen: Whatever makes his clock tick. He seems pretty creative, so either might work well for him!
