This dish was so good, I had finished half of it before I realized I never took a picture for the post!
When I was in Boulder recently, my good friend Danica had us over for dinner. The plan was to head over to her community pool, go for a swim, and then have dinner “al fresco.” Unfortunately, when you’re dealing with a total of six kids and the afternoon is quickly slipping into evening (translation–crankiness hits) that was much easier said than done. Poor Danica, who is nine months pregnant, made this entire fabulous meal, brought it all to the pool, only to have to schlep it back to the house without it being eaten. After we got home, and things calmed down, she finally had the chance to bust it out. Her own adaption of an epicurious recipe, my goodness was it delicious. And the whole point of me telling you the story in it’s entirely? This meal is easy to do and is very portable. Enjoy! –Alex

When the weather would turn warm and my grandmother hosted some kind of special get together–whether it be a birthday celebration or a flower club luncheon, this punch was always put out first. Now that my grandmother is no longer with us, my mom carries on the tradition. This was the first thing on the menu at Chelsea’s wedding shower! Non-alcoholic, the beverage is great for all ages. Little ones will especially get a kick from it–ice cream in their drink–what a treat! –Alex

I first tried one of Deanna’s stuffed mushrooms way back when we would have appetizer parties, drink wine, and not have to worry about how much you drank because there were no kids to wake up to. I loved them, got the recipe, and then tucked it away, forgetting about it. Recently, my husband unearthed it to make for a party and OMG!!!! I had totally forgotten how delicious they were. Gourmet and easy, this is the perfect dish to bring to your Oscar party this Sunday. –Alex

- 16 oz mushroom caps (the bigger, the easier to stuff) Read More…
I have my mother-in-law to thank for this delicious dressing recipe. My husband and I are obsessed–we’ve been making it all the time and yesterday, as I was licking the mixing bowl clean (you think I’m joking, don’t you?) I thought I should share the love with the Breezy Mama readers. You can use it on any type of salad, but it’s garlicky, so I usually stick to a Caesar salad theme. The one I made last night had romaine lettuce, tomatoes, hard boiled egg, croutons and Parmesan cheese. A word of warning–a little goes a long way, so taste as you go, because if you overcoat the salad, it will be ruined. –Alex

When I was growing up, every Sunday, almost without fail, my mom would pack my brother and I up and drive the half hour to my grandparents house where us kids would accompany our grandma to church. After, we’d head back to their house, play tennis and on very special occasions, my grandma would serve this chili for lunch. I loved it, and now that I can cook, I have no idea why it was reserved for special occasions. It’s SO easy to make, and the ingredients are staples. I guess my grandma just liked keeping us on our toes. Perfect for a winter night, or some Superbowl football, it whips up in no time. Read More…

Brian (4th from right) knows fish.
I’ll be the first to admit that fish is not my thing. In fact, until I met my husband the only fish I ate was a tuna fish sandwich. Since he’s half Japanese, that wasn’t going to work and he was able to bring me over to the dark side where I now love sushi, and can muscle down a small fish steak. But this recipe is the exception to the rule. Our friend Brian’s creation, it makes fish tasty, with a slightly crunchy exterior and a moist interior. Take it from me, the person who would never order a fish dish in a restaurant–you’ll like it.

The following works on any fish! Read More…

The Master Mind behind this delicious dish.
Have you had enough turkey and stuffing and want something completely different? Then try this dish. A couple years ago my parents went on a trip to India. India wasn’t one of their top tourist destinations, but, everything fell together perfectly and they decided to go for it. They went as part of a tour group, and at one point, my parents chose to break away and head south to Kerala (think the first few scenes of The Bourne Supremacy). No one else wanted to do it, others warned them against it, and it was the best decision they made. They rented a guided boat, complete with personal chef, which took them through the Backwaters of Kerala. My parents loved it, and looking back, it was one of their favorite parts of the trip. This recipe comes from that boat trip–quantities are vague, because it was given by mouth and there was a bit of a language barrier. –Alex Read More…
Thanksgiving was four days ago–but is your fridge still full of turkey? This recipe, by Rachael Ray, is a fabulous way to use it up. I can’t think of a better meal on a cold day, the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Enjoy!
