4 Must-Have Tinted Moisturizers Plus Interview with One Creator

Our Queen of the Caboodle Kelly — a.k.a. an actress who has spent countless hours in make-up chairs and shares the tips she’s learned — gives Breezy Mama the top tinted moisturizers. Plus! Her interview with the creator of Miracle Skin Transformer.

From Kelly:

Remember the days when all we needed to look great was a swipe of mascara and some lip gloss? I have conceded that at 36, I can no longer get away without wearing some kind of coverage on my skin. I still hate the feel of layers and layers of product (i.e. primer, moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation) caked on my face. Tinted moisturizers have become my new best friend! They offer protection from the sun’s harmful rays while offering a sheer layer of coverage. Perfect for a day at the park or a night out on the town! Below is the list of my personal favorites. But first, I had the unique pleasure of speaking with Sarah McNamara, founder and creator of one of the most phenomenal new products on the market called Miracle Skin Transformer. It is a moisturizer, sunscreen and foundation all rolled into one! Here is what Sarah had to say about her amazing new product and being a mother of two:

How was the idea of the Miracle Skin Transformer born?

Cute Girl’s Hair Accessories

Ahhhhh, girls. I clearly remember the excitement of buying my daughter’s first barrette. The decision on which one to get, then trying to figuring out where to place it in her hair (I’m a complete dummy when it comes to hair), and then the loss (I’ve come to found that it’s very difficult to not lose these little barrettes). Since that “first time” I’ve become more of a pro and have even learned how to put my daughter’s hair in pig tails. I also keep my eye out for cute accessories that don’t cost a bundle. Here are a few I’ve found, all hand-made, making them even more special. And remember, even if you don’t have a girl, these would make great baby shower or birthday gifts!–Alex

Why They’re Better: Non-Disposable Swim Diapers

Protect the little ones from fecal matter--get them a non-disposable diaper.

When my first born was a baby and the cold winter days were being replaced by warm spring ones, I dutifully went out and purchased a package of Huggies swim diapers. I clearly remember taking Kieran to the beach, pulling on the swim diaper, and quickly realizing that disposable swim diapers. . . suck. They really do–no nice way about it. First of all, I couldn’t tell which side was the front. Secondly, he instantly peed and it went all over me. Next, I tried to get it off, and I tugged and tugged and it barely budged. (This was before I learned the trick of just ripping the sides.) I didn’t even finish the package of diapers that summer. I detested swim diapers, and my son either wore a regular diaper (which would be an interesting science experiment–just how much water can those diapers hold??) or he went naked.

When he was 2 1/2, I signed him up for swim lessons at Waterbabies Swim School. Waterbabies employs a “no disposable” swim diaper policy, and though Kieran was potty training, Read More…

6 Adorable Children’s Brands

One of the great things about running Breezy Mama is the cool stuff that comes across our emails. Everything from bamboo cleaning brushes to Bond-like (as in 007) strollers, I feel like we get to see it all. And fabulous children’s clothing is no exception–as soon as I think something doesn’t get any cuter, it does. And the cool thing about these clothing brands is that they’re run by people like you and me–parents, aunts or uncles who had a dream to provide the best for you and your child. Featured below are six recent arrivals. . .

Mini and Maximus
What first brings me in to to this brand is the Mini and Maximus slogan, “Kids will have they say.” I think it’s great because it’s a reminder that these little people that WE chose to bring into the world aren’t just taking up space, they’re full of ideas and energy and goodness. The next great thing is what they’re about; as it says on the Mini and Maximus site, “Our aim is to bring our customers new fashion forward products that are innovative and unique, but still appeal to a broad spectrum of sensibilities. Each season we will collaborate with different artists that will contribute exclusive and original ideas just for Mini & Maximus, presenting our customers with their specific and individual artistic approach. And along the way, our goal is to always make the most earth-conscious decisions whenever possible. . .” Can a company get any cooler? Photo Above–take another look at the shirt Read More…

Makeup: Going from Wrinkly to Dewy

The day I realized I needed help. That's me on the right.

I recently went through a midlife skin crisis. It all started on April 26, 2010. The Saturday prior, my husband and I went to a wonderful wedding, filled with great friends and on Monday (April 26) the photos from the event started to circulate. As I looked at each one, I realized that my face was wrinkly, that my skin tone was uneven, and that my face was filled with redness. I started to panic–how long had I looked like this? Why didn’t I realize it before? The panic increased when Chelsea and I attended an event a week later and received complimentary mini-facials. The woman looked at me and let out a, “OOOOHHHHHH.” “What? What is it?!” I panicked. “Your skin is severely dehydrated. And, you don’t wear any sunscreen, do you?” I was in shock–how could my skin be parched? I hydrate and moisturize every morning and night. And sunscreen? I religiously apply it. I guess my lifetime in the sun was just showing up as I edge over from my mid-thirties to being closer to 40. Deep sigh.

So, it pays to have friends in high places–Kelly, one of Breezy Mama‘s beauty editors, is one of my best friends. I shot off a panicked email saying I needed her help, and fast. We needed to go makeup shopping–I had to cover my redness and fine lines and look like a dewy woman in her 20′s. Luckily, she took on the job and we met a few weeks later. The following is what I bought, and which stopped the midlife skin crisis on the spot. Read More…

B12 Shots–Believe the Hype?

Jill is back– and this month she comes to us with her report on B12 shots. Breezy Mama sent Jill on her mission after hearing about numerous women who were getting the shot and reporting results that included everything from weight loss to restored sex drives. Jill had to know–should she believe the hype?

Please note: The following is Jill’s opinion and should, in no way, be replacement for advice from your medical professional. Though she is that cool. . .

From Jill:

Wikipedia:
Vitamin B12, vitamin B12 or vitamin B-12, also called cobalamin, is a water soluble vitamin with a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, and for the formation of blood. It is one of the eight B vitamins. It is normally involved in the metabolism of every cell of the body, especially affecting DNA synthesis and regulation, but also fatty acid synthesis and energy production. As the largest and most structurally complicated vitamin, it can be produced industrially only through bacterial fermentation-synthesis.

I’m not quite sure what any of that means. All I know is that the vitamin B12 is rumored to be a great way to get energy and perhaps lose weight.  I can recall being on set many years ago watching actors Read More…
