Top 5 Reads, According to a 9-Year-Old

I recently met Nina and her mom, Karina, through Breezy Mama Alysha. Somehow, we got on the conversation of reading and writing and Karina told me that Nina loves to write book reviews–each time she finishes a book, she does a little synopsis on it. Talk about motivation! So, I thought what better way to let other moms know what a pre-teen likes to read than asking one herself? Here are some of her current favorites . . . –Alex

Lift Their Spirits: Top 4 Baby Carriers

Admit it: you have at one point or another said, “The baby just wants me to hold her/him all the time.” First of all, I have. My hubby has. Most of my friends have. Second, awwwww. Except for the part not really when you are in the thick of it. Simple tasks like making dinner become torture time with a screaming infant. Sure, baby carriers are great for toting junior around town, but they also are fabulous for hands free-dom around the house. Even for those Mamas out of the baby stage, check these picks out for your next shower gift saving your sister/cousin/bestie from a screaming kid so they can carry on (get it?). Read More…

Pimp My Stroller: 6 Must-Have Accessories

I love accessories–the more the better. Whether they’re for your car, your hair, or in this case, your stroller, you can bet that I researched it and have bought at least one thing. But, I realized, what good does it do me if I have all that information, only to purchase the item, and then not think about it again? So, I thought I’d share the love, and in this case, it’s for the hottest stroller accessories on the market. Happy accessorizing! –Alex

Carry You Demi Milan Stroller Organizer
I don’t know how I’d function without this little gem. In my experience in strollers and joggers, the cup holder that comes with the unit is a waste. Each of mine has fallen off at the drop of a hat (or the bump of a doorway). With my current stroller (which I adore in all other ways), I was so frustrated, I just picked it up Read More…

There’s More than Roses this Valentine’s Day

Daliah

With Valentine’s a few short days away, break away from the norm and get something OTHER than roses this year. Roses are sweet and romantic, but why not spice it up and get something out of the ordinary (but still within budget)? Breezy Mama contacted Jaime Beck, the daughter half of the mother/daughter duo of Whimsey Florals for some suggestions. And now, I present you Jaime . . .

If you normally only get bouquets for the special day and wonder why it’s so expensive, all flowers are marked up by at least 50% during the Valentine’s Day season. (One reason to schedule your wedding at some OTHER time. A Valentine’s wedding–romantic, yes, cheap, no.) The flowers below offer some inexpensive alternatives Read More…

Books for When Siblings Get Sick

This past December, we found out there was another cancerous mass in my daughter (stay tuned for that story). We’ve been on an emotional roller coaster–going back and forth from the hospital, having an unsuccessful surgery, and assuming that she would need chemotherapy. If this journey was filled with highs and lows for my husband and me, you can only wonder what our poor 4-year-old son, Kieran, was going through. “Why is Emily going back to the hospital? Why did her cancer come back? You mean she’s not going to have any hair?” These were all questions that he asked and we struggled to find the right answers. What helped? Books. My friend, Breezy Mama Karina, took it upon herself to research the best books to help explain to Kieran what was happening. Even if your kid doesn’t have cancer, but (heaven forbid) a sibling does get sick, or you’re trying to help out another’s child–turn to one of these. –Alex
