My son is a You Tube fanatic. He loves to sit with his friends and watch the various videos—I think he truly believes it’s television, not understanding that anyone can post content. When he saw that there was a video of him and his buddy Trent tandem surfing, you would’ve thought he was told school was cancelled for the remainder of the year—it was the Coolest. Thing. Ever.
So there he is, watching You Tube videos, which is all fine and dandy, until I walk in and he’s viewing some sort of remake of Gangnam Style which, to put it simply, shouldn’t be for a seven-year-old’s eyes. Which is why I’m a huge fan of the Official LEGO® Channel on You Tube.
The Official LEGO® Channel is filled with videos that feature the various LEGO® themes (think LEGO® Star Wars™, LEGO® Friends, LEGO® DUPLO® Cars™, LEGO® DUPLO® Disney Princess™, etc), all of which are totally entertaining, and more importantly, innocent. There are videos that fans have created, mini-movies, episodes of past cartoons, product videos—you name it. My son loves the LEGO® City videos, especially the one where the “robbers get all the stuff.”
A super cool feature is that you can build playlists—when you see a video that you enjoy you can save it in your You Tube account so it’s easy to find when you want to watch it again. The “create your playlists” is also great if you have younger children—build up their content for them so you know exactly what they’re watching. It’s really easy to do:
- Visit Youtube.com/LEGO and watch one of your favorite videos
- Click “Video Options”
- Select “Add To Playlist”
- Sign-In using your YouTube Login
- Add your selected video to an existing playlist or create a new one
Have some dishes that need to be done? Laundry to be folded? Ahem, writing to do? Go to the Official LEGO® Channel, build your children’s playlist and wah-la! Keep them entertained and get your chores done, all while having peace of mind.
So, no more PG-13 content for my kiddos. If they want to watch You Tube, I tell them to go on the Official LEGO® Channel, and stay there. The great thing is that both my kids–boy and girl, ages 7 and 4, love everything and anything to do with LEGO®–so there’s no fighting about who wants to watch what.
Visit the Official LEGO® Channel to build your own playlist to watch with your kids and then reply below for a chance to win one (1) $1,000 gift card to buy your family’s favorite LEGO® products!
