It had been a crazy couple of weeks—with summer winding down, relatives visiting and getting ready for our upcoming family trip to Hawaii, my husband and I felt like we were ships passing in the night. So when the opportunity to stay at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa came up, we jumped on it. Literally just a couple of days before we left for Hawaii, we were looking forward to reconnecting and having dinner together, just the two of us. So the hubby got off work early, we dropped the kiddos of at my parents, and we cruised down to La Jolla, eagerly planning what we’d do first.
From the moment we walked into the lobby, we knew we were going to enjoy ourselves. As champagne was handed to us, we checked in and admired the early California Rancho style setting. Beautiful leather arm chairs, open beamed ceilings and sunshine streaming in, we could instantly feel the stress being lifted.
As we walked to our room, we couldn’t help but notice the beautiful grounds–lush gardens and trickling fountains, the whole scene made you feel at peace. We had a fabulous room with a balcony, overlooking the courtyard, so we sat and sipped our champagne, deciding to hit the pool.
When I jumped into the pool, I don’t know if it was because it was saltwater, or if the tension was melting, but I swear, I had never felt a pool “feel” so good. We swam and swam—it was hard to get out! When we finally did we enjoyed a drink in the jacuzzi, and hung out a bit longer before it was time to get ready for dinner.
We chose to stay on the property to eat—the Estancia has several restaurants to choose from, and we went for Mustangs and Burros. Sitting on their patio, we shared a great meal and great conversation—it had been too long where we could actually talk! After dinner, we decided to explore the ten acres that the Estancia sits on. Known for their Simple Syrups and Cocktail Bitters, my husband ordered a cocktail to go (they allowed me to take my wine glass) and we meandered through the garden paths, conference centers (which look anything but, they’re so well done) and sat by the fountain.
After waking up from a heavenly sleep (I’ve been obsessed with the bedding ever since), we got a work-out in at Estancia’s gym, then jumped into the pool one last time. After that, it was time to go back to reality, but not before a beautiful drive back up the coast.
