I love myself some reusable water bottles. Seriously–there are so many cool ones on the market, that I have to test them all–it’s like a disease. And what started this addiction? SIGG. SIGG was the first reusable bottle I ever had. My friend Erica (who always seems to be ahead of the pulse when it comes to being a bit greener) had one for herself and her daughter. I guess she could see that I would eye it jealously because that Christmas she gave both me and my son one. I loved it so much I went right out and bought us each another one. That was six years ago–and look how they’re holding up:
So when I was asked to check out some SIGG bottles from the new line, I literally jumped at the chance. I was sent a new one for me, as well as new ones for the two kiddos. Since our old ones were created six years ago, subtle (but great) changes have been made to the bottles. Starting with mine:
This bottle can be opened two ways–there’s a small screw top lid for drinking out of, but then there’s a bigger top that can be screwed off for easy cleaning, as well as for fitting ice cubes in. (My old one just had the small top). I love that this bottle is 50 ounces as well–perfect to take to the beach or park. To order the Wide Mouth Bottle Traveler, $29.99, click here.
My kids were sent the Smiling Bee (at very top) and Skatemania (above). Both loved the graphics–especially my 6 year-old-son who was happy to get an update of the “Sharky” bottle which you can see in the picture I took. These have changed a bit as well. There are slight grooves in the lids to make the sport top lock easier, the “bubble top” is a bit springier so it stays latched, and the plastic that twists the top into the place is a bit more streamlined–almost softer–if you can imagine that.

And, here’s some more interesting SIGG info from their website: “SIGG is a heritage brand founded in 1908 in Switzerland where the bottles are manufactured in one factory that continuously improves its manufacturing processes to meet high Swiss standards in quality and ecology. SIGG bottles are constructed from a seamless piece of pure aluminum which is inherently eco-friendly as aluminum is an abundant element of the earth’s crust. Therefore SIGG bottles are completely recyclable at the end of their long lives and do not contribute to our already over-populated landfills. They have a nonporous interior liner that ensures your liquids remain taste and odor neutral so you can have juice on Monday, milk on Tuesday and water on Wednesday and there won’t be any residual taste.”
So you can see what I mean–a cute bottle, with innovative features, it makes you want to drink more, doesn’t it?

You get want to stop using the old bottles, though. They were lined with BPA plastic.
Sigg bottles were not lined with BPA though some bottles produced prior to 2008 had minor traces of BPA. SIGG implemented a national exchange program for anyone who wanted to return their bottles for new ones.
