Gilt’s Gone Bellissimo? KC’s Got the Scoop!

Joining Angie Harmon, Sharon Osbourne, Lisa Loeb and others, KC got the scoop on Gilt Baby & Kids launch of the Wendy Bellissimo collection on Gilt.com.

Tuesday evening, I went to the Gilt Baby & Kids event celebrating the launch of the Wendy Bellissimo children’s collection on Gilt.com, which took place at the Palihouse Hotel in West Hollywood

I love events like this- lovely location, great people, champagne, and darling clothes. Sweaters, dresses, accessories, shoes, onesies, hats…all in soft fabrics and peaceful palettes of color. Granted, I can’t fit in any of them because I think my size, in baby clothes, is 400+ months.

But the bags? Oh, THE BAGS.

I really love a giant great bag with tons of compartments because frankly, I treat my purse like it’s a storage unit with a zipper. Wendy’s bags could be anywhere and you would think, “what a gorgeous bag, what do I have to do to get one of these bags in my life?” and then you realize that it’s placed among the teeny tiny shoes, sweaters, and dresses, and it dawns on you that this is a DIAPER BAG.

When talking with Joe, Wendy’s husband and partner, he explained that was their intention: to create a beautiful, chic bag that you would never guess held diapers, Cheerios, toys, and wipes. (mission accomplished: personally, this bag is going to hold iphone, Kindle, makeup, and probably a few toys).

When I found out that Wendy and Joe have 4 little girls, I was curious about her design inspiration- as someone who was dressed by her mother in the 70s, I’m mortified when I look back at the corduroy Granimal explosion that I wore proudly everyday with a Dorothy Hamil bowl to really cap off the look.

Wendy says that the baby clothes and accessories are designed based on what she loves and but she’s definitely influenced by what her girls want to wear. They have so much access to what is being designed and worked on and they weigh in on what they would like to wear. Her girls were at the event, too- darling, beautifully behaved, and of course, impeccably dressed.

I’ve got several friends having babies this year and I’m throwing more than a few showers, so I’m inspired by not just the clothes, which are beautifully made, but also the décor and design of the event. Wendy’s vision was garden chic, and I’m absolutely borrowing her little delicate touches and ideas for the next baby shower I’m throwing.

As for the line, the rollout on Gilt Kids is going to be gradual. Apparel is available now, and shoes, BAGS, bedding will be introduced to the website over the coming weeks. They encourage everyone to keep checking back and to sign up for updates. The bags, especially the one that will be mine as soon as possible, are going to go FAST.
