Listen, I make no secret about the fact that I like to be treated well on the most important day of the year: Mother’s Day. It’s not that I have high expectations, but I do hope to be greeted with a Happy Mother’s Day by each family member… and perhaps a mocha.

This year went above and beyond that when the Sheraton Carlsbad hosted my family and me for a one-night stay in one of their amazing, ocean view suites! Who knew a hotel room could fit my family…. Kidding… kind of. Plus, we also got to enjoy Legoland through their “secret” hotel entrance!

One of the hardest parts for me after a day at an amusement park is trying to get my tired kids into the car, the drive home from there and then into bed. My new obsession after an amazing staycation at The Sheraton in Carlsbad is the “secret” passage from the hotel to Legoland park!

After a day of laughing on the rides and saying no to several requests for ice cream throughout the day (and one yes eventually), it was awesome to head back to the ocean view Sheraton and flop ourselves down on our couch in our one bedroom suite!

Mustering up our energy to head back to the lobby and have dinner at the on site restaurant Twenty/20, the kids and I then went back to change into our swimsuits, headed to the pool and soaked our tired legs in the hot tub. An amazing finish to an amazing day.

A great option for those traveling from the north, is the new Metrolink accommodations, including, “boarding a Metrolink train in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino or Ventura Counties destined for Oceanside. Also, if the suite option is out of budget, I spoke to one family who was visiting with three kids from LA that mentioned they love coming down to stay there because the rooms are nice and spacious for their family of five.

As locals, we had a short drive, but felt like we were away and, as a result, nice and relaxed at this gorgeous San Diego resort. Just what the doctor ordered for a perfect Mother’s Day weekend.
