From Vanessa:

Were you given the wonderful gift of cash this past holiday season? Why not spend it on one of spring 2012′s top “must-haves”?  By adding one, two, or all of these to your wardrobe, you’ll have an easy transition from winter into spring.  The trends for spring are fun and light, with lots of bright and beautiful colors that make an average piece become a “wow” piece.  Do a little spring cleaning and make room for some spring shopping!

1. Whimsical Patterns with prints such as birds, deer, feathers, or abstract florals are an absolute must for your closet.  They are easy to layer for those cooler spring afternoons – add a sweater like the one below for extra warmth.

2. Nautical/Stripes – they never die. . . always hot each spring, the nautical look is back yet again.  This year, it has a little more of a preppy feel, but is combined with more pops of color, like oranges, greens and bright yellow.  Stripes still have a strong presence as well.  Be creative with this trend and add a fun twist to your outfit!  The options are endless- a shirt, a sweater, a scarf or even a cool bag.

3. Chunky (but light-weight) Knit Pull-Over Sweater – you may have one from winter.  Keep it out and ready to wear with your spring clothing.  A shorter length works well because it allows you to show off what you have underneath–like that cute dress or top–while adding a little more texture and getting you through a chilly morning or evening.  A neutral color like this will be easy to layer with everything.

4. Flare Pants/Jeans - a higher rise with a 70’s feel, these will add a little more “funk” to your every day wear.  The stretch is a must for a good fit and comfort.  A trouser version works great and also has more of a “nautical” feel to them as well!

5. Espadrilles – you can go for a low or a high wedge to give you that ultra long and slim look.  They look great with the Flare Jeans/Pants to give a more Bohemian feel and they look great with all things nautical.
