Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to cozy up together as a family and have an old fashion game night! The following six board games have been rigorously tested by my kids and made this list accordingly!
Road Trip
I love this game for prepping for a vacation or to take along while you travel. Oh…and a little learning will ensue. They say, “Can you rattle off three towns that start with the letter “P”. What about three fast foods that contain the letter “B”. Or, finish the “Tale of the Trip” by filling in the blanks with words beginning with “A”. How’s this: “When we stopped in Albuquerque, I bought an Armadillo to give to Aunt Alice”. Complete each word challenge and motor across the sea. “Rest Stop” cards add to the fun along the way, with lucky breaks and the occasional pothole. You’ll find yourself asking “R” we there yet and saying wish “U” were here.”

Angelina Ballerina Dance With Me Game
Let’s just say I may have a rock star in the making and she went head over heels for this game that comes with a CD! They say, “Angelina Ballerina is the star of the show – and guess who she wants on stage, too? YOU! Practice the dance moves, step by step. Every time you play, it’s a new ballet routine! When showtime arrives, turn on the music and take center stage!”

Chuggington Let’s Ride the Rails Game
Basically, just say it’s a train game and my kids are sold! They absolutely adored this model and even though I tried to keep it up high so as not to lose parts, I was often asked to take it down so they could play again! They say, “Help Wilson, Brewster, and Koko solve a mystery in Chuggington Let’s Ride the Rails Game! Oh bumpers! The animals have escaped from the Safari Park! Only one has stayed behind. Work together to help Wilson, Brewster, and Koko travel around Chuggington as they pick up the remaining animals. Discover who decided to stay with Mtambo in the Safari Park. Guess correctly and you’re a winner!”

Richard Scarry Airport Game
This was the winning board game for my son! In fact, as I was typing away (likely on Facebook), he came running up to me and said, “Give them a REALLY good review please!” Cracked me up! They say, “It’s a busy, busy day at the airport—and you’re the pilot! Set up “destination” game boards around the room. Load your plane with your favorite Busytown characters and wait for the “all clear” for take-off. Then fly to faraway places—the beach, mountains, the city, and more. Collect souvenirs wherever you go. The player with the most wins! It’s out-of-your-seat role play fun!”

Disney FamilyFun Kids
Okay — not a “board game” per say, but my kids and I were VERY entertained. In fact, when in a pinch to teach my son’s Kindergarten class art, I pulled a project from this magazine and they loved it (not to mention it took the full hour!). What I love best is that the projects in the issue I checked out required items I already had around the house – phew! They say, “Easy crafts and snacks kids can make themselves. Plus! Special art pages and kids can draw on, cut out and play with!”

Thanks! We always love a fun new game. Our new favorite (although maybe it’s not really new-just new to us) is the Apples to Apples Family version. Very fun and entertaining. It’s definitely a game that always makes us laugh.
