Summer in Southern California is finally here–the drizzle and gloom we had last year is gone, and I find myself waking up to blue skies (almost) every morning. As a result, I got myself in the mood to test out this summer’s hottest products on the market. From speakers that can withstand sand, to an anchor for your umbrella, to a head to toe nourishing oil, the following are my picks for this summer’s Must-Have essentials . . .
For what seems like forever, I have been looking for a speaker system that I can take to the beach. Each one is too fragile, or costs so much that you don’t want to take it anywhere, let alone a sandy, wet place. iLuv answers the call with this speaker case. All it takes is three AAA batteries and a iPod, iPhone, Smart Phone, or MP3 player, and you’ll have music wherever you go. Available in a array of colors. iLuviSP110 Portable Amplified Stereo Speaker Case, $14.99. Click here to order.
Ever go from the pool, beach, or lake straight to your summer BBQ? And with you comes that feeling of being just a tad sticky and maybe a bit smelly? Action Wipes are here to clean you. A full body wipe with Eucalyptus and Tea Tree, the generous, thick towel will get you smelling good in no time. Hint: For those who are always looking to reduce their carbon footprint, after using, you can put the towel in the wash and reuse it for other purposes. I threw one in for testing purposes, and was impressed by how well it came out! Action Wipes, starting at $1.25 for one (the more you buy, the less they cost). Click here to order.
The secret to this nifty gadget is the bendable tail. This alligator shaped anchor has a clip on one end to hold whatever you need holding in place, with a tail on the other end to anchor it in. So, you can dig the tail into the sand and have the jaws clip your towel to prevent it from blowing away. You can bend the tails around stairs (see above) or boat rails and use them as clothespins. You can even anchor the tail in the sand straight down, and have the mouth hold your glasses, phone, or wallet. Like I said, pretty nifty! Toweligator, $14.95 for two (price goes down with the more you buy). Click here to order.
When I told Vanessa and Maria that I was trying out some N.4 products they oohed and aahed. Although I had never heard of the line, they both said it was one of their favorites and you couldn’t go wrong with any of the products. Indeed they were right. After being at the beach and in the saltwater every day this past 4th of July weekend, my hair was in need of some moisture. Spread this stuff on after shampooing and in 3 (!) minutes, I could feel my hair coming back to life. A definite splurge-worthy item. N.4 Lumiere d’hiver Reconstructing Masque, $35.00. No matter where you live, you need a beach umbrella to keep everyone sunburn free and cool. So, why don’t you make it a stylish accessory? Cocopani umbrellas not only come in oh-so-cute patterns, but they provide full UV30+ protection as well. They’re a generous size and extremely lightweight–an added bonus. Each umbrella comes in it’s own carrying case, making transportation a breeze–now that’s what you want on a hot summer day! Cocopani Australia Umbrella, $110.00. Click here to order.
One word applies to this lotion–amazing. When you’re feeling shiny on a sultry day, just apply a teensy bit of this concoction on your face, concentrating on the T-Zone. Shine is instantly gone, leaving a mattified, gorgeous face, ready to take on what the day has to offer. (Am I the only one that pumps myself up in front of the mirror?) For those of you with oily skin, you have to read all that the product does–click here. Cosmedicine Medi-Matte™ Oil Control Lotion SPF 20, $29.99. (Get free shipping and complimentary gifts with purchase.) Click here to order.
Who hasn’t had their umbrella fly out, only to have you chase it down the sand, hoping to catch it before it impales someone? Noblo is here to help you stop running. Just fill this bag up with sand (while you’re at the beach) and then attach it’s Velcro straps above the umbrella’s spokes. Wah-La! Relax! Noblo is super light, and folds up to a tiny pouch, taking up next to no room in your beach bag. Noblo Umbrella Buddy, $14.99 (with free shipping for a limited time). Click here to order.
As I mentioned above, I was in the sun and sea all of the extended 4th of July weekend. My entire body was parched and needed help, FAST. I turned to O.N.E. which stands for Olive Oil Nourishing Enrichment, and claims to work for your entire body regimen–face, hands, body and hair. I stepped out of the shower and rubbed it all over, including, with a huge leap of faith, my face. The result? Silky, soft skin. My face didn’t look like it was an oil spill–I just added some powder and was ready to go. It did leave my hair a bit “wet-looking”, but as soon as it dried I brushed it out and the glossiness was amazing. Not only a great product to bring back tired skin, but also fantastic for traveling–all you need is one bottle! O.N.E. Skincare, $29.99. Click here to order.
Full disclosure–I did not test this product out, but it seemed too cool to not include. Overboard makes waterproof bags for your phone which means you no longer have to worry about the kids dripping on it, or shaking their towels over it. The best part? It’s fully usable while in the bag. So go right ahead and snap those photos of Jane Boogie Boarding, if a wave gets ya, you have nothing to fear. OverBoard Waterproof Phone Case, on sale for $24.95. Sand-Off is a mitt that is filled with a type of talc, which they call Dry Body Wash. The idea is, when you have a sandy body, you put the mitt on, clap your hands to dispense the Dry Body wash, and then rub it over the body to easily remove sand. Now I’ve been using this trick for as long as I’ve been a mom–a bottle of baby powder is a staple in my beach bag. I sprinkle that on my hand, and then rub. So I was curious, what makes this better? After testing it, a few things do–one, it’s much smaller than carrying a bottle of talc. Second, it dispenses the Dry Body Wash much more evenly, so you don’t end up with kiddos that look like snowmen. On a windy day, the Dry Body Wash doesn’t fly up on your face and it doesn’t leave a residue on the body. It’s also inexpensive–they claim that one mitt will last throughout the summer. All in all, definitely better than a bottle of baby powder weighing you down. Sand-Off, $7.99. Click here to order.
