Bring on the Potty! 5 Seats to get Toilet Training Started

summer infant 300x200 Bring on the Potty! 5 Seats to get Toilet Training StartedThis past fall I traveled to the All Baby and Child trade show and amongst other things, saw a lot of potties. The one thing they all had in common? Besides the fact that you complete your bathroom duty in it, these were not your mother’s potty. First, today’s potty is meant to grow with your child–not merely a potty, it can be used as a stool as well. Second–modern, singing, characters–there is one to suit every taste–whether it’s your own or your child’s. Here are five of my favorites. . .

Summer Infant 3 Stage Reward Potty Trainer & Step Stool

You should have heard the squeals of joy as my daughter opened the box of this potty. For her, it was the greatest thing since the last bag of goldfish she ate. And, she pooped in it right away–bonus points. She loves the storage container for wipes, and the fact that she has her own toilet paper holder. For those of you with boys, there’s a blue version too. Product description: Step 1: Potty trainer with soft seat for added comfort. Built-in toilet tissue and flushable wipes holder encourage positive grown-up behavior modeling. Step 2: Toilet topper for standard sized toilet use and step stool for easy access. Step 3: Second step stool for reaching the sink. Summer Infant 3 Stage Reward Potty Trainer & Step Stool, $39.99. Click here to purchase.

For your sports fanatic, this basketball potty will be all he cares about. (Just think–you can have Jr. sit on his potty while Daddy watches the Lakers!) With a cheering sound made after every flush, your boy will be hyped to actually poop or pee. Baseball fans–there’s a version for you too. Product description: This sit down potty seat makes cheering sound as a reward after every flush. Its removable trainer seat helps transition to adult toilet. This seat includes removable deflector shield for boy’s removable basin and for easy cleaning. It can also be used as a sit stool when the lid is closed. Munchkin Slam Dunk Potty Seat, $32.09. Primo Ducka Toilet Set Reducer

You know that page in Everyone Poops where the little boy is sitting on a duck potty? Well, my daughter loves that potty, just loves it. And asks if we can get one–every time we read the book. I tell her that I’ve never seen one, and that’s it probably only available in Japan (where Taro Gomi is from). Well, imagine my surprise when I ran across a bunny version of the potty at the ABC show. It’s the same thing, albeit a different character. Unfortunately, Amazon is currently out of stock, so I thought the above duck potty seat may be a good substitute–it certainly is cute! Product description: Use on both round and elongated toilets. The yellow rubber edge helps to prevent the reducer from moving on the toilet. It is made with easy to clean, non-toxic plastic. Suitable for children 2-5 years of age. Primo Ducka Toilet Set Reducer, $17.99. Click here to purchase.

If versatility is your thing, then this is the potty for you. You start with the outside shell, or “stand.” When your baby is born, you can use this shell to hold your Tummy Tub–a womb-shaped and sized bath. When he/she has outgrown that, you can use this shell as a seat/stool. Then, when your baby is ready for potty training, it can convert to a potty. And once that phase is over, it goes back to being a seat/stool. How great is that? Product description: Steps is a tummy tub stand, a step stool, a potty training seat, and children’s chair. Features: stable & secure position to raise the tummy tub to a comfortable seated position; 3 different levels to raise your child up as a step-stool; potty seat stores inside for easy accessibility; chair comes with leather like cover to fit any decor. Tummy Tub Steps Multifunctional Stand Stool Potty Seat, $49.99. Click here to order.

I love the Baby Bjorn toliets for boys. We have two of the potties and one that sit on top of the adult potty. My favorite part is that the cup for boys is attached and the edge is on the out side not the inside like most potties. The other potty we had always had a missing cup or the cup would scrap his penis when he was sitting down or getting up.
