Summer is here, school is out and you’re probably spending more time at the park than ever. As you get ready to go, are you reaching for the same old capris and scoop neck tee? Maybe it’s time to update the outfit–here, Vanessa, Breezy Mama‘s style guru, shares some ideas to keep you both looking and feeling cool.

From Vanessa:

What to do to look cute in a pair of every day casual shorts. . . The idea is to add a top with something special like a pretty print, a bright color, an unexpected fabric or detail, etc.  It should have a slight a-line and hit around your hip area. The three featured here all do the trick.

(Top Photo): Soprano Print Tank at Nordstrom- $32.00. Click here to order.

Not feeling spaghetti straps or you need a little more coverage?  Try one of these two tanks. . .

(Above, Left): Lace Trimmed Sateen Top at Forever21 – $22.80. Click here to order.

(Above, Right): Alternative Valerie Stripe Tank at Nordstrom- $38.00. Click here to order.

These shorts are a perfect length for any age.  With a 6 inch inseam, they cover just enough so you don’t feel like a teenager.

Out There Shorts by Roxy- $44.50. Click here to order.

Tired of sandals or maybe you didn’t have time to get a pedicure?  Try a pair of Toms Shoes.  They now come in a GREAT array of colors and prints to match your personal style.  I love the cream, but black would be much easier to keep clean!

Toms Classic Canvas Slip-on Shoes at Nordstrom- $43.00. Click here to order.

Add a simple necklace that adds some interest and would look perfect with any of these tops…

Knotted Tassel Necklace at Forever21- $7.80. Click here to order.

If a chill is in the air, add a long cardigan sweater- one that’s open in the front adds a modern touch.

Rubbish Tie Back Cardigan at Nordstrom- $44.00. Click here to order.

  1. I felt compelled to read this post very closely and in it’s entirety…as I arrived at the park just yesterday in capris and a scoop neck tee (at least it was Michael Stars!). My park wardrobe has definitely been uninspired lately. I’ve got the shorts and cardigan like Vanessa suggested. I’m wondering if she has any sleeveless top ideas for us still-nursing Breezy Mamas who need a bit of a vee or scoop to avoid a tent-like situation? So far all I got is boring ribbed tanks.

  2. I really like the Sleeveless Flounce Neck Dress in gray and berry.

  3. Hi Kathy, just thought i’d chime in, as I suffered with the same problem for a year while nursing my daughter and had to come up with some creative solutions. The best nursing tank I came across is the “Bravado”:!-Nursing-Bra-Tank~1398.html

It offers wonderful support, easy to use, and is the most flattering that I have found on the market. During warmer climates I would jazz it up with a sleeveless drape front vest, such as this version:

You can find similar styles and colors to pair with your tanks at just about any store in the mall. Good luck!!

definitely the maternity nursing maxi dress in grey- these are cute! and just like many moms, i wear many things that are just functional and not very cute at all. i can’t wait to be out of nursing tank tops!

  5. Jessica says:

I adore the “sleeveless flounce neck dress” in berry or purple. So cute!

  6. I like the Moody Mamas Maternity Chiffon Trim Knit Dress – Berry in size XS, I’m glad they have smaller sizes.

  7. I’m a fan on FB
