Crafternoon: Holiday Art Projects for the Kids

Homemade gifts are the most thoughtful (Read: Save money! Kidding… kind of…). Breezy Mama brings you five projects — most of which use the same supplies, so you can have a few projects lined up at once — that are great for giving while also giving you and the kids something fun to do.

5. Wrapping Paper
Make it more memorable with some fun thought put into it.

What you need:

• A large roll of paper. Check out this $4.99 option from Ikea: click here.
• Pens, paints, crayons, glitter, stamps, stickers – get carried away in any way you want.

What you do:
1. Spread the paper out along your dining room table.
2. Let your li’l one’s inner artist be set free with all the supplies you’ve given them!
3. Roll back up the paper when it dries and get ready to use it to wrap!

4. Bookmarks
For the readers in your life, create a present so they remember where they left off while having something to remember your child by.

What you need:

• Thick card stock paper or construction paper.
• Scissors.
• Use the same pens, paint, crayons, glitter, stickers, etc. as above.

What you do:
1. Trim down the paper to the size of a standard bookmark.
2. Break out your child’s imagination!

3. Paper Weights
A little desk memento is sure to make the office sentimental.

What you need:

• Collect rocks around your neighborhood.
• Paint and glitter.

What you do:
Have your Picasso paint the rock and you’ve got yourself a paper weight to give as a gift!

2. Holiday Gift Tags
My MIL has always wanted a Breezy Mama shout-out – here you go Grandma Sharon! For years (ten now to be exact), she has adorned her many gifts with these tags that I’ve always loved that got me thinking – how cute for the kids to decorate!

What you need:

• Shipping tags, such as Avery Pre-Strung ($5.49 for 100) –get them at Staples or click here to purchase.
• Break out the pens, paint, crayons, glitter, stickers, etc. again.

What you do:
1. Let ‘em get creative with one side and go nuts on the décor.
2. When they’re done, flip them over and add the “To” and “From.”

1. Ornaments
Let’s face it – holiday decorations break and for those that get a tree, each year it can look more and more bare. Create a keepsake to cherish this holiday season with a photo of your wee ones.

What you need:

• Construction Paper.
• Pens, crayons or paint.
• A photo of your child.
• Ribbon.

What you do:
1. Cut out two circles just a little bigger than your fist.
2. Take one of the circles and cut out the center – about the size of a silver dollar.
3. Place a photo that fits in the “window” of the cut out circle and glue it to the un-cut circle.
4. Glue the cut-out circle on top.
5. Have your little one decorate around the outside and then either use a hole puncher to create a hole at the top or glue, tie or staple on a ribbon and you have yourself an ornament!
