There are plenty of mall activities for kids of all ages.
Now that the weather is getting colder and the days are getting shorter (don’t forget to set your clocks back this Saturday night!) the kid friendly activities are becoming limited. What do you do when you can’t play outside? Take advantage of your local mall! It had been forever since I last visited our mall, so I took the munchkins and went exploring–this is what I found. . .

The water fountain at our local mall.
10. Water Fountains
Almost every mall I’ve been to has some sort of indoor fountain. Most of the time the water “dances” or lights shine on it to make a rainbow. These are perfect to stop and look at for a bit; water is Read More…

Photo by Glen Friedman and doodles by Kate Neckel.
Breezy Mama met Kate as a result of her sending an email telling us the site rocked. After checking out her work, it turns out the feeling was mutual. A mother of two who also happens to be a an artist living in NYC, what’s there not to like? It doesn’t hurt that her work is super cute as well. And, between you and me, she also does stuff for kids’ rooms. An excuse to redecorate? You betcha.
Where do you look for inspiration?
I’m inspired by tulips, patterns, dreams, skateboards (especially broken ones), surfing, rituals, music (lately I’ve been listening to The Virgins, Ben Kweller, Evan Dando and lots of reggae), little yellow Read More…
When people ask me if I had fun at the ABC Kids Expo Show in Las Vegas last month, I have to be honest: It didn’t go as planned. My heart had recently been ripped out of my chest and handed back to me on a platter when on September 2 it was confirmed that Breezy Mama Co-Founder Alex’s 9 month old daughter – the one people made fun of me when they saw how big my smile was in the photo of me holding her the day she was born – had cancer. By the time the show came around Read More…

Jen Warner, hard at work.
When I had my first child, one of the hardest things for me to keep up with was maintaining my eyebrows. I had never got them waxed, but I found it almost impossible to find the time to pluck. Something needed to be done, and quick. So, I made an appointment with Jen Warren of The Brow Boutique. She had an excellent reputation, and since I was scared to death of the waxing, I thought I’d put myself in the best hands. Jen understood, and started off slowly–the first couple times she plucked my brows into shape, until I was ready for the big W. Once I took the plunge I was not disappointed, and am now a converted waxer, going back to The Brow Boutique ever since. Here are Jen’s tips–from Read More…

Just when you finally have your routine down and the kids on a great sleep schedule, along comes the end of Daylight Savings this weekend and the start of darker days (get it?). Plus, in general, sure you’ve got the steps down for getting your baby to sleep (or read them again by clicking here), but where are all the experts when it comes to continuing your toddler’s and preschooler’s naps? Or how do you get your big kid to go to bed when it’s time? From ages 3 months to 8 years old, Breezy Mama turned to Suzy Martyn, Parenting Consultant, Speaker and Author, Michelle LaRowe author and voted Nanny of the Year 2004, Rebecca Michi, Parenting Consultant, Angelita, Doula and Parenting Coach and Davis Ehrler, Infant Child Sleep Consultant (Yep, 5 experts! Not messing around on this topic, Mamas!), for their tips on how to start preparing your baby and kids NOW for when the clock “falls” back this weekend, best bedtime/naptime routines and more.
When the clocks change, how do parents get their kids to not wake at the crack of dawn?
Suzy: Seven to ten days before the actual change, begin to Read More…
Part Three of Breezy Mama’s Hospital Series comes from Breezy Mama Vanessa. Knowing that my husband is a football fan, she brought dinner over to us on Monday night–and made sure that the fare would go well as we ate in front of the TV to watch the game. Vanessa didn’t go wrong–served with french fries, a side salad and a nice microbrewed beer, the meal was scrumptious. Even better–the meal is made in the crock-pot so it’s easy to do.
Ingredients:
- Ciabatta Rolls- will fill about 12 (they come in 6 packs at Trader Joes) OR any other really good roll
- Sharp Cheddar- 1 slice for every sandwich you are making
- 4 boneless/skinless chicken breasts, frozen or fresh (will feed 4-6 adults)
- 1 Bottle-Trader Joes All Natural BBQ Sauce (or your favorite kind) Read More…

With the warm weather dying down and the cool weather moving in, it’s time to rev up for that time of year: when the kiddos get sick. When you’ve been cooped up for days, taking care of a whiny (who could blame them?) child, EVERYONE starts to get a little stir crazy. Is little Johnny feeling better, but he’s still too goopy to hang out with others? Well then, here are some ideas for getting out of the house, but still not exposing others to your child’s germs.
10. Pick Flowers
If you don’t want to take advantage of your child’s new found energy (heaven forbid you get out of the house only to get them sicker), take a stroll around your block. Pick flowers along the way, come home, and arrange Read More…
