Let’s face it — it’s summer and parenting can get a little lax. Bath time can often involve just a hose (kidding… kind of), dietary concerns are no holds barred at the BBQs and bed time before sunset can often be a pipe-dream. However, one area you don’t want to put off until winter is your child’s teeth. From advice on how to get your toddler to let you brush, biggest problem areas in older children’s chompers (and how to avoid them) to the age your child can finally start brushing their own (hint: not for a while) and much more (including questions posted on the Seahorse Lounge answered), Breezy Mama turned to Dr. Finger of San Diego Pediatric Dental Group to get to the tooth of the Read More…
Ole is one of my husband’s best friends–they’ve known each other forever and he was the Best Man in our wedding. Since my husband and I have been together for years, I’ve known Ole forever as well. However, this past weekend was the first time I’ve ever had his cooking. And man, was it good. This salad was included in the meal–so fresh and delightful that I had to get the recipe to share with you all. Although he served it as a side salad, you could throw some grilled chicken in it and make it a complete meal. –Alex
Serves 4
Ingredients:
For the dressing:
1/2 teaspoon lime zest
1/4 cup lime juice (approximately 2 – 3 limes)
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
For the salad:
One “pack” (the plastic tub) of cherry tomatoes, halved
One yellow bell pepper, diced
15 oz can of black beans (rinsed and drained)
1/2 cup diced red onion
Two tablespoons minced jalapeno
Two avocados, chopped–these need to be added last–AFTER you mix the dressing in.
Directions:
Put everything for the salad in a bowl.
Mix ingredients for dressing.
Pour dressing over salad fixings.
Add avocados.
Add a beer as an accompaniment (Ole served Stone Pale Ale) and ENJOY!

In my opinion, the longest and hardest part of the day is between nap and bedtime. You’ve already done the day’s outing, you’ve already let the kids watch TV, and you know it’s bad for their eyes if they sit in front of the computer to play games any longer. But you’re tired, oh soooo tired. Here are a couple (easy!) projects to help the Read More…
Are you in a musical rut? Tired of listening to the Wiggles? If so, read on my friend. Here are three suggestions to liven up your summer listening. And, make sure to post your own favorites in the comments below!
Ralph’s World / Welcome to Ralph’s World
Ralph is a dad, with long hair and glasses who plays the guitar and often has his young daughter join in. His songs are upbeat and danceable, with lyrics that are easy to memorize and won’t kill you when your child sings them over and over again. My son’s favorite is Surfin’ In My Imagination and it’s just too cute to see him pretend to surf on his bed, just like the kid in the song does. The bonus with this CD is that it comes with a Video DVD—perfect to throw on the TV and dance around to when Read More…
As I’ve remarked earlier, my son wakes up early; and now, it’s looking as if my baby is going to follow in his footsteps. As a result, coffee means a lot to me. I have to have it every morning, and if for some reason we are out, I seriously panic. Who wants to change out of their pajamas and hop in the car to get a cup of joe at 5:45 AM? So, I’m always stocked, and feel like I have the best equipment (while still on a budget) for the job. See below and let me what you think. –Alex
Cuisinart Grind and Brew 12 Cup Coffee Maker, $104.00
Last Christmas my wonderful husband picked up on the fact that I was not happy with our current coffee maker. (I say OUR coffee maker, but it’s really mine since he, ummm, doesn’t drink coffee). So, Christmas came and this gem was under the tree. If you’re partial to having your coffee freshly ground seconds before it brews, this is the machine for you. The cool thing, though, is that if you aren’t partial (I’m not) then it makes fantastic coffee from pre-ground grinds too. The only thing that they could do to make this puppy better is to somehow make it so there aren’t so many pieces to clean. This only goes for when you grind the beans. When you do, there are a few different parts that all need to be washed. Everything else is fabulous. And it really does brew a good cup.

Breezy Mama Kelly is one of the world’s most beautiful women with or without make-up! Growing up as an actress (she was in several Barbie commercials, Charles in Charge, Highway to Heaven, Kids Incorporated, etc. and later in life in a Super Bowl commercial and a Ford commercial), she was known as ‘Queen of the Caboodle’ for her ready-to-head -to-LA-for-an-audition tricks of the make-up trade. Now as a mother of three, she can get just as tired as the rest of us and shares her favorite beauty tips she’s learned over the years and the products that can give you that bright-eyed appearance after even the worst of the up-with-the-kids nights.
Have some days where you feel tired? Even a little, um, old? These beauty items are sure bets on making you feel (or at least make you look) as well rested and youthful as you did BEFORE you had kids with Read More…
